Parks & Recreation

The Parks & Recreation Commission recently adopted an Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan.  This plan is designed to provide a path by which the City can make its parks more accessible to those with disabilities.  This is a first step towards other major planning for the parks and the City overall.  You can review the plan by downloading the PDF below.

Platt Park

Platt Park is our city’s largest park located off 7th Ave with handicap parking off 14th Place. Home of the Camanche Days Celebration and future home of a Splash Pad.

Picnic areas with grills and large picnic tables under a nice pavilion for parties.

Soccer fields and baseball fields for adult and kid leagues and horseshoe pits and an area for sand volleyball with playground equipment throughout.

Time capsule is schedule to open in 2036.

Central Park

Frequently referred to as "City Park", Central Park is centrally located to the City.  It is a hub of activity, especially during the summer months at the basketball court.  There has been a recent upgrade to playground equipment at this location. The Strategic Plan calls for connecting all equipment and locations with an ADA complaint pathway and future equipment upgrades.  Use of hte pavillion is on a first come first served basis.

Anthony Park

Anthony Park is a small neighborhood park in a quiet location. It features a few pieces of playground equipment.  It is scheduled for equipment upgrades in the Spring of 2022.

Peck Park

Peck Park is named after the found of Camanche, George Peck.  It is the location of some youth baseball diamonds and a small bit of playground equipment. It is located next to the Camanche School District Administration building.

Lum Park

This park is tucked away in a quiet corner of Camanche.  The Strategic Plan calls for a large investment in this property to create vehicle access, parking, and the installation of an inclusive playground for all ages and abilities.  This is part of the City's Capital Improvement Plan and is scheduled for 2024

Triangle Park

This small section of land is the location of our City sign and is the gateway for cyclists and pedestrians who enter Camanche from the Clinton area.  This is part of the Mississippi River Trail.  You can park your vehicle here and utilize the bike share program by renting a bicycle from this location.

Pocket Parks

Camanche maintains a handful of small parks along the riverfront for citizens and visitors to enjoy the peacefulness of the river view.  The pocket parks are named after the original streets on which these parks rested.  They were originally intended to be the continuation of those streets.  When those plans did not reach their fulfillment, the City converted the right of way land intended for roads into pocket parks.

Main Street Park

This park is at the corner of 1st Street and 11th Avenue.  You can travel along the river to access the library and the dock.  Future upgrades will include a path to connect the two areas and make them ADA accesible.

Buffalo Street Park

Maxan Street Park

Chicago Street Park

Some of our parks are now equipped with dog waste dispensers.  Please clean up after your four legged citizens.
